Synopsis (Goodreads.com):

Seventeen-year-old Bianca Piper is cynical and loyal, and she doesn’t think she’s the prettiest of her friends by a long shot. She’s also way too smart to fall for the charms of man-slut and slimy school hottie Wesley Rush. In fact, Bianca hates him. And when he nicknames her “the Duff,” she throws her Coke in his face.

But things aren’t so great at home right now, and Bianca is desperate for a distraction. She ends up kissing Wesley. Worse, she likes it. Eager for escape, Bianca throws herself into a closeted enemies-with-benefits relationship with him.

Until it all goes horribly awry. It turns out Wesley isn’t such a bad listener, and his life is pretty screwed up, too. Suddenly Bianca realizes with absolute horror that she’s falling for the guy she thought she hated more than anyone.

My Thoughts (Spoiler-free):

I had heard mixed opinions about this book, so I was always hesitant to pick it up. Phil had said that he hated it and that the main character was annoying, but on the other hand, my other good friend Kristina [@ The PrincessGummyBear] had said she loved it! I trust both of their opinions, so I decided to finally check it out myself and see how I felt about it. And AHHH I'm so glad I picked it up!

While some people may think that Bianca didn't make good choices in this book, I personally thought that the choices she made were very real to what happens in high school and in college. The struggles that Bianca was going through at home were also very real to me, and overall I thought she could be a relatable character to girls out in the real world. Although Wesley is your typical asshole, we see that behind closed doors he is struggling with problems at home as well; which explains the whole asshole part of him.

What I didn't like about this book was the ending, but that's usually my problem with a lot of books, so it didn't really bother me all that much. Though part of me is still hoping for some kind of companion to the Duff!

Like I mentioned before, I loved that the characters and the story in general were so real and true for both high school and college. Even though I can't personally relate to the characters, I know that other people might be able to relate to them because I've seen girls and guys in these type of situations before while I was in high school and in college!

All in all, I definitely recommend this book! 4 stars!
