Wishlist Wednesday #11

Wishlist Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Pen to Paper where we tell you about a book that is currently on our wishlist that we are excited for!

This week on Geraldine's Wishlist:

Reconstructing Amelia by Kimberly McCreight:
Litigation lawyer and harried single mother Kate Baron is stunned when her daughter's exclusive private school in Park Slope, Brooklyn, calls with disturbing news: her intelligent, high-achieving fifteen-year-old daughter, Amelia, has been caught cheating.

Kate can't believe that Amelia, an ambitious, levelheaded girl who's never been in trouble would do something like that. But by the time she arrives at Grace Hall, Kate's faced with far more devastating news. Amelia is dead.

Seemingly unable to cope with what she'd done, a despondent Amelia has jumped from the school's roof in an act of "spontaneous" suicide. At least that's the story Grace Hall and the police tell Kate. And overwhelmed as she is by her own guilt and shattered by grief, it is the story that Kate believes until she gets the anonymous text:
She didn't jump.

Sifting through Amelia's emails, text messages, social media postings, and cell phone logs, Kate is determined to learn the heartbreaking truth about why Amelia was on Grace Hall's roof that day-and why she died.

Told in alternating voices, Reconstructing Amelia is a story of secrets and lies, of love and betrayal, of trusted friends and vicious bullies. It's about how well a parent ever really knows a child and how far one mother will go to vindicate the memory of a daughter whose life she could not save.

I literally found out about this book last week, and what especially caught my eye was the fact that emails, text messages, social media postings, and cell phone logs were involved! It seems like it's going to be one of those books that incorporates all of these forms of communicating in their original form. And of course, after reading the synopsis all I could think about was I need this book right now! Unfortunately, I am on a book buying ban, so I don't know when I'll be able to get it. But mark my words, I will get my hands on this book sooner than later!

I know the Kindle version is out right now, but I think this is the type of book that I would end up loving, so a physical copy is a must! If you're drawn to it just as much as me and want a physical copy, then look out for the hardcover because it's out right now! EEEK!

  3. There was a price break on this one for Kindle about a week or so ago, so I snapped it up! I'm really looking forward to reading it. Some of the blurbs are comparing it to Gone Girl, which makes me even more excited to read it. Great choice!

  5. woah, at first I thought this was absolutely not for me,but then...lies, betrayal, intrigues, a boarding school (if I got that right...) - yes, please! Also, I am with you on that bookbuying ban...have been going strong for two months. If everything works out it'll be over as June rolls around, though, so that I can actually get my hands on this book - it does sound amazing!
